Jerusalem (CNN) — A Tel Aviv district court Tuesday sentenced former Israeli President Moshe Katsav to seven years in prison on multiple charges of rape and sexual harassment.

The case involved three women — two in the president’s office and one in the Tourism Ministry.

In late December, the three-judge panel found Katsav guilty of two charges of rape, two charges of forceful sexual harassment and one charge of sexual harassment.

Katsav had agreed in 2007 to plead guilty to lesser charges and pay a fine to avoid jail time, but he pulled out of the deal when it came time to enter his plea.

Israeli president to avoid jail for sex crimes after plea bargain

do you see the light?

Israel is not a Jewish state, and not because they are or not Jews but because they don’t belong to the environment and since the circumstances is not like the new world, they don’t understand the heritage, culture, and the history of the land

JEFFREY HELLER IN JERUSALEM

ISRAEL’S president, Moshe Katsav, yesterday pleaded guilty to committing sexual crimes against women employees, signing a plea bargain that will keep him out of jail, the country’s attorney-general said.

Under the deal, the attorney-general, Menachem Mazuz, retreated from his stated intention to charge Katsav with rape. But he said the president would resign and that “shame will accompany him forever”.

CIA tried to get Mafia to kill Castro: documents

By Steve Holland and Andy Sullivan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The CIA worked with two of the country’s
most-wanted criminals in a botched "gangster-type" attempt to
assassinate Cuban President Fidel Castro in the early 1960s, according
to documents released by the CIA on Tuesday

The CIA aired its
dirty laundry by declassifying hundreds of pages of long-secret records
that detail some of the agency’s worst illegal abuses during about 25
years of overseas assassination attempts, domestic spying and
kidnapping

Western knockoffs and Islamic bling: Debunking some popular stereotypes of life in Iran

Updated: 4:49 p.m. ET June 18, 2007

June
18, 2007 – First things first: let’s get the most ridiculous Western
caricatures of Iran out of the way. The capital, Tehran, is no armed
camp, ready to do holy war with the Great Satan, who is lately
personified by George W. Bush. In fact, in two days here I have seen
precisely two Iranian soldiers—one standing on a guard tower, staring
lazily out at Mehrabad Airport in the 95-degree heat, the other doing
some off-duty shopping in downtown Tehran

TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran will not rule out
using oil as a weapon if the United States resorts to military action
against the Islamic Republic over its nuclear program, an Iranian oil
official said in remarks published on Tuesday.

"When the Americans say that military action in regard to the
nuclear issue has not been put aside, Iran can also say that it will
not put aside oil as a tool," Iran’s OPEC governor, Hossein Kazempour
Ardebili, told Iran’s Sharq newspaper
