LONDON – The British press on Monday backed the so-called “special relationship” between Britain and the United States, but urged Prime Minister Gordon Brown to be candid with US President George W. Bush
Blair was frequently lampooned by British commentators as a ”poodle” to Bush
His strong support for the United States hurt his image at home, not just in recent months over the Iraq war but also last summer when, like Bush, he refused to condemn Israel’s bombing of Lebanon
