Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaks at the International Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation in Tehran April 17, 2010

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was pointedly left off the guest list for last week’s Washington summit on nuclear security, attended by 47 world leaders. That’s because President Barack Obama hoped to use the occasion to build support for a new round of international sanctions against Iran’s nuclear development program. But Ahmadinejad is never one to stay home waiting forlornly for the phone to ring. Instead, he staged his own nuclear disarmament "summit" in Tehran this past weekend

Under the banner "Nuclear Energy for All, Nuclear Weapons for No One", the Iranian event had a less impressive guest list than Obama’s, with no major foreign heads of state in attendance. But it did draw delegations from most of the 60 countries that had pledged to attend, despite the clouds of volcanic ash that shut down airports in Europe. Still, unlike the Washington summit, at which several deals on securing nuclear fuel stockpiles were announced, the Tehran conference yielded few concrete results. Instead, it served principally as a platform for Iranian attacks on U.S. nuclear policy in line with the disarmament requirements of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

We should be smart about Iran, by the Bangor Daily News Published

We should be smart about Iran, by the Bangor Daily News

Sen. Graham said that “war is a terrible thing.” He went on: “But I
do know this: that sometimes it’s better to go to war than it is to
allow the Holocaust to develop a second time.” To cheers and applause,
he said, “My belief is a military strike stopping the Iranian government
from having a nuclear weapon is more effective than trying to deal with
the Iranian government after they have one.”

He would not be
satisfied with a mere aerial strike to take out Iran’s nuclear plants.
He went on: “And if military force is ever employed, it should be done
in a decisive fashion. The Iranian government’s ability to wage
conventional warfare should not exist. They should not have one plane
that can fly or one ship that can float.”
He denied that Iran, however difficult in behavior, is a rogue
nation, bent on suicidal nuclear war, or a terrorist state. It does
supply weapons to “terrorist organizations,” but Hezbollah has seats in
the Lebanese parliament and Hamas is seeking diplomatic relations with
Washington

Neo-Cons,
Fundies, Feddies, And
Con-Artists: Bush To Obama

By Professor Francis A. Boyle

It
is now a matter of public record that immediately after the terrible tragedy of
11 September 2001, U.S. Secretary of War Donald Rumsfeld and his pro-Israeli
Neo-Conservative Deputy Paul Wolfowitz began to plot, plan, scheme and conspire
to wage a war of aggression against Iraq by manipulating the tragic events of
September 11th in order to provide a pretext for doing so. Of course
Iraq had
nothing at all to do with September 11th or supporting Al-Qaeda. But that made
no difference to Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, their Undersecretary of War Douglas
Feith, and the numerous other pro-Israeli Neo-Cons inhabiting the Bush Jr.
administration

Stop intervening

Posted by alanmirs on April 13, 2010

Stop intervening

Americans
must reject this interventionist foreign policy, and our policing of the world.
We cannot continue to go around the globe meddling in other countries’ affairs,
imposing our will on other nations under the guise of spreading democracy. This
is the root cause of terrorism against
America. Have people forgotten that
we supported Saddam Hussein in
Iraq’s
war against
Iran, and that
we supported
Afghanistan
and Osama bin Laden against the Soviets?

The
Obama administration is ratcheting up its war threats against Iran in a
calculated effort to provoke a crisis with Tehran that could produce a
general war in the Middle East. In multiple venues—planted articles in
the press, the release of a think tank study on military options,
speeches at the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC, and congressional
declarations—Washington is building a case for a new eruption of US
military aggression
